The Arizona Class for The IRC

The Arizona Class volunteers are NOT part of the IRC.                             ArizonaClass is an independent group of volunteers that help the IRC.

The picture link of the “No speaking” image, is for refugees with no English (and in some cases no oral) skills or abilities.

Our goal is to help Refugees and Immigrants learn the basic skills needed to live in the American environment. We will teach people how to apply for jobs, how to take mass transit, even how to apply for a Library Card.

Classes are currently planned to be broken into four logical groups.  The first break is based on English Proficiency.  Those who need an interpreter and those who do not.  The second break is based on computer literacy.  Those who have used a computer, and those who have not.

Later classes will be designed for those with computer or English fluency.  Also, courses are planned for other languages.  Our initial group will be those coming up from Cuba.  We make this distinction only because of limited staff time and language skills of the instructors; it is NOT a commentary on which group has greater needs, or is of more or lesser importance.
